Macumbaria aborda o fenômeno do “complexo das macumbas” através da linha de reflexão proposta pelo historiador Luiz Antonio Simas, seu narrador. Na rua, no terreiro, no botequim, na favela, na encruzilhada ou no campo de várzea foi forjada uma multifacetada identidade histórico-cultural, resultante do cruzamento entre as espiritualidades ameríndias, africanas e do catolicismo popular europeu; O filme ainda conta com os depoimentos complementares da mãe de santo Néa de Ewá, do etnólogo e cientista político Carlos Moore, e do jornalista Luarlindo Ernesto.

The film explores the phenomenon of the “macumba complex” through the line of thought proposed by historian Luiz Antonio Simas, it’s narrator. On the street, in the terreiro, at the bar, in the favela, at the crossroads, or in the floodplain, a multifaceted historical and cultural identity was forged, resulting from the intersection of Amerindian and African spiritualities and European popular Catholicism. The film also features additional testimonials from the mãe de santo Néa de Ewá, ethnologist and political scientist Carlos Moore, and journalist Luarlindo Ernesto.
