Desafiando o arquétipo do que seria um enredo hollywoodiano, em que o protagonista é levado pelas circunstâncias a alcançar um objetivo, o personagem principal aqui não tem qualquer motivação, subvertendo assim a ideia capitalista e consumista do desejo. O estilo de vida minimalista e sereno de Q, que trabalha apenas o suficiente para juntar dinheiro para depois poder seguir uma rotina bastante austera — em ritmo lento — envolvendo, por exemplo, passeios pela cidade e hábitos de baixa tecnologia, como escrever cartões postais, pode ser interpretado como uma resistência à nossa sociedade consumista acelerada, onde, em vez de capitalizar a mais-valia, ele capitaliza o tempo.

Challenging the archetype of a Hollywood plot, in which the protagonist is driven by circumstances to achieve a goal, the main character here has no motivation, thus subverting the capitalist and consumerist idea of desire. The minimalist and serene lifestyle of Q, who works just enough to save money so that he can then follow a very austere routine—at a slow pace—involving, for example, walks around the city and low-tech habits, such as writing postcards, can be interpreted as resistance to our fast-paced consumerist society, where, instead of capitalizing on added value, he capitalizes on time.
